Keep shooting the holes as you slowly defend the tower supporting the rocket that is mere moments away from launching. At first, youвЂ™re just fighting tentacles, shooting the holes that open up to release Swarms, because those arenвЂ™t annoyingly overused or anything by Act III. Yeah, Gears 5 lets you launch a rocket into space, too bad we have to complete this lame boss fight to do it. The end of Act III introduces us to the Kraken, an ugly, worm-like creature with long tentacles that like to grab rockets like the one we are trying to launch. Hulk in the first Avengers and we get to play the part of Loki. Nowadays, we get a fight that feels more like Loki vs. At least old Gears had the decency to give us a few moments of tension and then a Hammer of Dawn to take out berzerkers. Players new and old agree this boss sucks. It might come off as ranting or whining in word, but I have yet to meet the person who found any redeeming qualities in the fight. My personal favorite is when the Matriarch runs into walls and, rather than collide, runs along that wall and around the corner to where you happen to be hiding from her.

At least they have the decency to throw down some ammo boxes nearby, but it doesnвЂ™t mean much when one wrong move leads to instant death. It wouldnвЂ™t be so bad if you didnвЂ™t have to spend so much time burning through ammo trying to deal damage. There is a brief cutscene each time you restart, but with how finicky the fight can be, you could be watching this a dozen or more times with bad enough luck. No revive, just back to the last checkpoint.

Even better, if you overstay to try and get in an extra shot or two the Matriarch will simply turn around and jump into you, blowing you to literal smithereens. Even with a perfect active reloaded gun, the amount of damage you do it laughable. Turns out bringing that cryo gun was a good idea, except for the fact that it heavily limits your mobility and makes you an easy target for the Matriarch.Дrop that sucker and head around to the back to get in some solid damageвЂ¦and by вЂњsolid damageвЂќ I mean next to nothing. The mechanics of the fight are simple enough, freeze the boss and shoot it in the back. With the Matriarch awoken and out to kill Kait, you get to fight this berzerker-like foe with a hitbox the size of a house in an enclosed space. I could, but this boss fight is just so bad. I could have forgiven a lot with the story payoff we get in Act II as it finally wraps up a plotline that has been dangling since Gears of War 2 (2008). Sure, the grenades take forever to explode, but Cole lives on a different plane of existence from everyone else in this game.ДЄct II, on the other hand, has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. This time, itвЂ™s Cole riding a motorcycle with grenades all over it launched into the SwarmackвЂ™s mouth.

You are woefully unprepared and have to be bailed out by an NPC doing something crazy. It is the predictable first act boss you expect from a Gears game. Spoilers ahead for those who havenвЂ™t finished the game.ДЄct IвЂ™s Swarmack is mostly separate from the rest of this piece. For all of the questionable additions and decisions The Coalition has made to this franchise over time, it is these boss fights that feel the most egregiously counter-intuitive. No, one fight in particular breaks the biggest cardinal sin of any boss fight, it just isnвЂ™t fun and makes you watch an unskippable cutscene every time you fail. IвЂ™m not just talking about the fact that the fights themselves arenвЂ™t fun or engaging, or about how theyвЂ™re time-consuming and tedious. LetвЂ™s get right to the point: Gears 5 has some lousy boss fights.
